It’s that time of year, Mariners. As the semester comes to an end, workloads pile up, winter sports kick off, college application deadlines approach, and finals are just around the corner. It definitely feels like a lot, but don’t worry, Moreau’s counselors are here to help and share tips on managing stress and staying on top of school during this busy time.
Freshman year is full of changes and adjustments, and it is normal to feel pressure with finals approaching. Counselor Sabrina Eggerson encourages students to ask for help, remember to look at the finals schedule, and make a study plan to avoid cramming.
Sophomore year classes get harder, and extracurricular activity commitments take up more time. It can get tough and lead to burnout. Breaking big tasks into smaller steps can help students stay more consistent and motivated. Counselors also recommend that students maintain habits that worked last year.
They say junior year can be one of the hardest years of high school. Especially with the AP overload and test prep. Counselor Katricia Sanchez recommends that students create a small, doable to-do list rather than a huge one. She also emphasizes that it is okay to take breaks.
Meanwhile, seniors are getting hit with senioritis and find it difficult to stay focused while finals and college application deadlines are coming up.
“Senioritis is real, but it also comes with real consequences,” says Sanchez. Counselors tell seniors to set specific times each week for applications, meet with them for guidance, and reward themselves when they hit milestones.
Throughout all grade levels, counselors emphasize to students that they are never alone. They encourage all students to reach out for help because it is never too late.
Eggerson states, “It’s not over until it’s over.”
Staying active, getting a good night’s sleep, and taking responsibility for what needs to be done can make a difference.
Sanchez says, “If you need to read the book, then read the book.”
Finals and deadlines can be stressful, but don’t worry, Mariners, we’re in this together! Let’s finish the semester out strong!
