Coach Spotlight: Girls’ Soccer’s Jolie Poulet’19
By Maya McComb, Sports Editor
With fall sports coming to an end, the winter season is in full swing! The winter sports include girls’ and boys’ soccer and basketball. With the conclusion of tryouts during the first week of November, the Girls’ soccer team has started official practices and is excited for the upcoming season.
The coaches at Moreau consistently strive for excellence, motivating each player to reach their full potential. Girls’ varsity soccer coaches include Jolie Poulet, Bryan Molina, and Yvette Moreno.
Coach Jolie is a former Moreau student from the class of 2019, who played varsity soccer all four years in high school, in addition to playing for a club team. She was recruited by the Dominican University of California, where she continued her soccer career as a starting goalie throughout her university career. Soccer has always been an important part of Poulet’s life, and she continues her passion by playing in an Adult Soccer league.
In her third year as varsity head coach, she has seen the program grow, especially with the players’ mentality. She says, “There have been a lot more student-athletes playing soccer, leading to more competitiveness and commitment, which has resulted in more success each season.”
Before Jolie’s and Bryan’s positions as coaches, the coaching staff for Moreau’s girls’ soccer program lacked consistency, with the team often having a new coach every year, adding instability to the program. Jolie’s coming back to Moreau was a result of the impact Moreau had on her as a soccer player.
She says, “ I came back to coach at Moreau to give back to the school after graduating in 2019, and to help create opportunities for the program to grow, and to support the next generation of soccer players.”
Each season, the program has continued to extend its impact and success. Poulet continues to say, “I’m looking forward to watching the team continue to grow and find more success throughout the season, hopefully leading us to the playoffs!”
