If you ask a student here at Moreau what their favorite school-wide event is, the majority of them will say “Spirit Week!” This yearly tradition combines competition, community, and school spirit, all culminating in the Homecoming Game and dance. This year, Spirit Week will begin Friday, Oct.17, and continue through Oct. 25th.
Each class picks a theme representing a popular pop culture event, movie, or game at the end of the previous school year. All Student Body (ASB) President Ellie Lee (‘26) explains, “Spirit Week at Moreau is always one of the most exciting times of the year because everyone gets involved!”

This year, the Frosh theme is “Frosh 66”, an homage to the award-winning Pixar film Cars and racing to the finish line. Despite being at a disadvantage, because it is their first year competing, the frosh are eager to show the upperclassmen that they can win it all. The current sophomores shocked the entire school by being the first class ever to win Spirit Week as frosh, and hope to continue that with their theme, “Lilio and Soph.” The juniors have been described as “second-place warriors” in response to placing second the previous two years. They are determined to break the curse and win as the “Just Dance Juniors.” For the seniors, their last hurrah is “Senior Sambas,” inspired by the nostalgic movie Rio.
Spirit Week involves many months of planning and preparation, as well as communication between the council and classes. Each class must prepare a full performance that includes dancing and acting. An issue many classes are facing is student participation in the performances.
Lee addressed this problem, saying, “Honestly, you just have to not really care about what others think. And there’s power in numbers.” The ASB president continues to encourage participation because no one is going to judge you for having school spirit.

The community built through Spirit Week creates lifelong memories and friendships. Spirit Week brings the whole school community together through the competition. Lee says, “The classes are already really hyped and want to work together to win!”
