Summer is getting closer and closer and while we’re worried about finals, we’re also thinking about what we’re going to do this summer. We all know what we want to do, but do you ever wonder how our teachers and staff are going to spend their break?

Art teacher Kristen Parker says, “My family and I are going to go camping. We’ll do a lot of swimming, too. We’re hoping to go to British Columbia for travel. At home, I’ll take some time to throw on my wheel in my backyard studio. I will also be doing a lot of gardening. For two weeks, I’ll be at Moreau for the art camp with middle school kids.”

Spanish teacher Ana Patterson says, “I’m going to chaperone on the immersion trip to LA. I’m also going to go to a jazz band concert here. After all of that I’m going to Mexico to visit my aunt.”

Theology teacher Ben Greenbaum says, “We’re going to take a family trip to Kona, Hawaii to visit some family friends. We’re also going to take a trip to the Monterey Bay aquarium because my kids love the aquarium. The rest of the summer is going to be track practices and family time.”

TAMA teacher Gary Gongwer says, “I will be part of the Philippines immersion service trip. It lasts from the end of May to the middle of June. Then, I’ll be in Hawaii for two weeks on the island of Kauai. At the end of July I’ll be in Chicago for a teacher conference. In between travels I’ll be at home doing some house repairs I’ve been needing to do.”

Associate Dean Armando Ayala says, “This summer I’m going to be here at Moreau for summer school. I also have a lot of kids in detention for at least 3 weeks. I’ll probably take some time off and visit my mom in Mexico. I also have friends in Idaho that I want to visit.”

Art teacher Karen Thomas says, “I’m going on the Philippines immersion trip with a group of Moreau students and Moreau teachers. I will be gone until mid June. After that I’m going to go home to Austin Texas to visit my parents and see my siblings.”

Dean Samuel Sims says, “I will be here during summer school supervising. After that I have two road trips planned, both to southern California. I’m going to go down to San Diego and down to LA. Hopefully I’ll go to a few baseball games there. At home I’ll clean my apartment and probably do some redecorating to maximize the space I have.”

English teacher Jessica Guidotti says, “My husband and my two kids are going on a road trip to some national parks in Northern California to check out the redwoods. I’m also going to be teaching summer school. In my free time, I’m going to be reading a lot. I have books piled up that I’ve been wanting to get to. I’ll be going to a couple of concerts in San Jose too.”

Biology teacher Breanna Herrera says, “I’m going to Paris with Dr. Schott and students for the French Exchange program. I’m also helping with the bridge program here at Moreau. It’s where the rising freshman get a view of what it’s like to be at Moreau for two weeks. Cross country has practice in the summer too and I have a running camp in July. I’m also going to Washington D.C. to visit and watch the National’s game.”

Science and Spanish teacher Austin Reaker says, “I’m taking 11 Moreau students to El Salvador with Ms. Catalan. Shortly after, I’ll be heading to Texas to get married. My wife and I will spend a month traveling around Italy for our honeymoon.”

Choir teacher Kaia Richards says, “I have three concerts in June. Once those are completed, I might go visit my aunt and uncle in Florida. If I have extra time I’d love to drive up and down the Pacific coast highway. I also have to start planning music for Christmas and next summer. I’ll keep taking my Chinese lessons and try to continue my streak. I’m almost at the one year mark and that’s really exciting to me. I’m also going to continue teaching private voice lessons over the summer.”

English teacher Samantha Wainwright says, “I’m looking forward to a lot of peaceful time at home. I will be attending a conference for the California Collaborative for Holocaust and Genocide Education in June at USC. I’m also looking forward to taking a trip wth my mom to the Northern California coast in July.”
