The most exciting part of the school year is here: Spirit Week! Students are filled with excitement, while they are preparing with dance practice, decoration meetings, and planning costumes for fun dress-up days. With the competition, everyone is wondering: Who has the best Spirit Week theme? Here is a little look into the different themes.
Freshmen:
The Freshmen theme is Frosh 66. Freshman Rally Officer Rey Angelo Danguilan said, “It’s inspired by cars and racing, and the name of the theme references the famous Route 66 highway. It’s also inspired by the Disney movie “Cars,” which is about a racecar named Lightning McQueen. He is on his way to a race when he gets stuck in a small town called Radiator Springs. He meets new people and learns about the importance of friendship.
Sophomores:
The Sophomores’ theme is Lilo and Sophs, based on the movie ‘Lilo and Stitch,’” according to Sophomore Rally Officer Lucas Gella. “Lilo and Stitch” is a movie about a little girl named Lilo who finds an alien named Stitch. Lilo thinks Stitch is a dog and adopts him. Stitch causes a lot of trouble in the beginning, and later on learns that “Ohana” means family.
Juniors:
The Juniors’ theme is Just Dance Juniors. Junior Co-Curricular Officer Vy Nguyen said, “This theme incorporates bright, bold colors, fun pop and cultural dances, and being able to educate hearts and minds through our skit.” “Just Dance” is a video game. Players follow the dance moves on the screen. The goal is to match the moves as closely as you can.
Seniors:
The Seniors theme is Senior Samba. “The theme is senior samba, Brazilian culture, and based off of the movie Rio, it’s really colorful,” said senior class Secretary-Treasurer Prisha Gupta. “Rio” is a movie about a bird named Blu who grew up in Minnesota, but is brought to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to meet the only other bird of his species left, Jewel. They both ended up getting caught by bird smugglers and explore the colorful world of Rio together.
