As you all know, the ASB Executive Council elections were held last Thursday. All of us Mariners were able to vote for who we thought would be most able to uphold each position. For me personally, this election was tough. I don’t know if having so many capable, like-minded people running against each other is a blessing or a curse (definitely a blessing).
In this article, I will be highlighting some of the people who are going to serve on Moreau’s
‘26-‘27 ASB Council, and asking them some questions about their election experience.
First up is junior Maya McComb, our future ASB President. Maya has been in student government since sophomore year, and is currently serving on the ASB council as the Secretary/Treasurer. Maya was asked how she will make sure she represents the voices of all students.
McComb responded,“As one of the school’s representatives, my goal is to genuinely listen to students and make sure their ideas and opinions about improving campus life are heard and taken seriously.”
Being the ASB President comes with a lot of roles and responsibilities. Therefore, listening to the students is essential in or for a happy student body.
Katie Hathaway, the current Sophomore President, with two years of student leadership experience at Moreau. She will be the ASB Vice President for the ‘26-’27 school year.
Katie was asked why she decided to run for Vice President.
Hathaway replied, “I decided to run because I really care about our school and the people in it. Being in leadership has taught me that I really enjoy helping people and being involved with the school. It is something that fits who I am as a person, and I want to continue to work hard to make our school the best it can be.”
Heartwarming response from Katie, it is most often that people who are passionate about their job do better at it than those who tolerate it. Very excited to see what she achieves as our ASB VP next year!
Erin Echaluse, the current Sophomore Secretary/Treasurer and future ASB Secretary/Treasurer is on her journey to becoming a member of student government for 3 years. She was asked about what challenges she expects to face, and how she will handle them.
Echaluse countered, “I expect to be really busy next year. I feel that what will challenge me the most will definitely be my time management and balancing ASB with classes and extracurriculars. So I plan to stay organized and always ask for help whenever times are tough. I know I can definitely rely on the rest of the council and Ms. Alejo!”
Totally valid, it can get stressful having to balance personal life with academic and leader life. However, it seems to be working well for her at the moment, continue the great work!
Ari Manansala, who will be a Public Relations Officer for the third time next year, but as an ASB member was asked what was the most important thing she learned from running her campaign.
Manansala responded, “Some of the most important things I learned from running for ASB is that I can only do so much and that I can only control what I can control. Another thing that I learned is how to promote and advertise for the whole school instead of just my class.”
That’s a great life lesson. Sometimes you have to let life play out when you’ve performed to your best ability. Promoting/advertising for the whole school rather than her class is essential for her new position as well.
Lastly is Jasper Durie AKA BBJ!!! Jasper first joined student Government during sophomore year as a Rally Officer. He then moved on to ASB as one of the Two Activities Commissioners and will be holding this same position for next year. Jasper was asked what are his top goals for the upcoming year.
Jasper replied, “My number one goal this year is to try to make rallies as off-script as possible, meaning no phones.”
Great Idea! We as students rely on our phones too much nowadays, it’s time to get real with it and connect with each other on another level.
Congratulations to everyone who ran for ASB this year, the Moreau community is deeply proud of you all. And good luck to the new ASB Executive Council members, we’re all rooting for you to do great things for us Mariners.
