And just like that, the 2025 fall season comes to an end. This season was filled with high-intense practices, games, and competition between the athletes and their respective sports. Let’s break down the success of each sport and how they have grown throughout the months.
FOOTBALL
Coming off a state championship win, the Mariners were fighting to continue the success in the 2025 season. At the beginning of the season, they had a 0–3 losing streak, but broke it with a vital win against Balboa. Their last game was against Tennyson High School, where they won 34–6, finishing with an overall record of 4–6. Unfortunately, the Mariners did not make it to NCS this year.

WATER POLO – MEN/WOMEN
Though this season didn’t end as hoped, both the girls’ and boys’ water polo teams had a very developmental year, where strong connections with teammates and coaches and consistent improvement were major themes. These gains will be taken into the next water polo season, with a stronger and closer team than ever before.

TENNIS – WOMEN
Despite tennis being an off-campus sport, many students participated and had a very successful season. The program grew in both numbers and achievement. Check out Mikayla Weiss’ girls’ tennis MVALs recap.

RALLY SQUAD
The cheer team supported the football team at every game. The athletes showcased their strength, agility, and flexibility on the sidelines both at home and away. The rally team is now transitioning from cheering to being cheered. The winter season will be their competitive season, where they will travel to competitions as well as cheer on the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams.

CROSS COUNTRY
The cross-country season began in hot weather, but as the Mariners continued to push themselves to greatness, they ran through the rainy months as well. These athletes warm up and train hard—non-distance runners included—often putting in challenging treadmill work. The varsity athletes who qualified for NCS have continued to train and will compete on November 22.

VOLLEYBALL – WOMEN
The season was a huge success. It was the first time in six years that Mr. Abanico coached the girls’ volleyball team, and the team finished third in the league and advanced to NCS. During their NCS run, they beat the first-seeded team and ultimately finished fourth in the section.
