Several times a year, the entire Moreau community gathers in the main gym for Mass. However, commonly overlooked yet crucial to shaping mass is Moreau’s Music Ministry Group. From spiritual psalms to gathering songs, Music Ministry guides and invigorates every mass, bringing them to life.
Music Ministry features solo and ensemble vocalists, along with various instrumentalists. These instrumentalists include, but are not limited to, drummers, violinists, and guitarists. Together, these musicians practice and create entirely student-made sound, with the exception of Mr. Abanico and Ms. Tabora’s guidance. Social Justice Coordinator Jerico Abanico has been directing Music Ministry for nine years, and intends to continue and develop the program.
“I think it’s because of my background,” Abanico elaborates on why he chose to lead the program. “I’ve been running music ministry over at my current church for the past 20 years, and I think when I came over here, I wanted to see a different change when it came to music and the division that Moreau had for it.”

As previously stated, students play a huge role in organizing Music Ministry. Seniors Bernadette Gamboa and Pedro Barrales Sanchez, both members of the ‘26-27 Campus Ministry Team, are in charge of a plethora of responsibilities. First, they choose the songs for the upcoming mass, which then go through Mr. Abanico for approval. Once they confirm the setlist, Gamboa and Barrales Sanchez gather sheet music, create a playlist, and put together lyric slides for the practices. They also plan and run rehearsals while Mr. Abanico directs the music ministers. Lastly, Gamboa and Barrales Sanchez write call-slips for Music Ministers to arrive early to the gym on the day of Mass to ensure they get time to practice.
