Every year new clubs at Moreau are created. This year, one has emerged called Biochem Design and Build. The three head officers are President Mayra Ghadse, Vice President Siya Modi, and Secretary Treasurer Radhika Shah. I was able to get interviews with two of them and some other student club members.

The mission of this club is to explore a collaboration between biology, chemistry, structural engineering and community service. Biochem Build and Design is already an active start. They began their first meeting by building braille biology models to help blind middle schoolers. Because of their visual impairment, models for non-blind individuals don’t work for them. Many students have joined specifically because of the initial impact these models will have on the less fortunate.

Two students Colin Amdahl and Adnan Saeed, both juniors, emphasize their true and unbridled passion for helping those in need. Adnan said, “I’m just so happy, I can positively impact the lives of those middle schoolers.”

This club can appeal to many people, ranging from those interested in community service, model builders, those interested in the science field, or even those with artistic talents. If all of this wasn’t enough, this club also offers service hours to its members.

Amdahl said,“This would be a wonderful task to add onto one’s resume.”

The president Mayra Ghadse, a junior, is currently working with the California School for the Blind to make sure these models get to these kids. She exclaims how much she enjoys seeing the smiles on the faces of the blind, saying,“It brings me a sense of utter happiness.”

Mayra also stated how much she encourages people to join. It takes many people to make these models and she would be extremely appreciative if more students join.

On the other side of things vice president Siya Modi, a senior, manages the entire club’s supplies, oversees production, examines model durability, and finally supervises the labeling process. She also personally emphasizes the fun she has managing a club with her friends, Mayra and Radhika. Lastly she adds that, “this club is an amazing way to earn service hours and be more connected to the Moreau community.”

Announcements are played on school tv’s, added to posters, and they also have a discord as well. If anyone wants to join, email President Mayra Ghadse at mghadse2028@moreaucatholic.org or Vice President Siya Modi at smodi2027@moreaucatholic.org
