How technology is changing the modern classroom

The incorporation of technology into today’s education has transformed the way teachers teach and students learn. Digital tools, ranging from interactive whiteboards to personal devices to artificial intelligence platforms, are breaking down the traditional walls of the classroom. Education is shifting from a passive, lecture-based model to an interactive, student-centered environment that equips learners for an increasingly connected world.

Major Advantages of Classroom Technology

Personalized Learning: Adaptive learning software allows students to move ahead at their own pace, offering targeted practice for those needing extra help and advanced content for those who are ahead of the class.

Higher Engagement: Research resources, gamified platforms, and collaborative spaces keep students fully engaged with lesson materials.

Global Collaboration: Digital connectivity allows for real-time connections between classrooms and peers, experts, and cultures from around the world.

Challenges and Considerations

Technology offers great opportunities but also presents unique challenges to teachers and administrators. There remain ongoing issues of digital equity, screen-time management, and privacy. School leaders also need to continue to ensure devices are used to enhance critical thinking, not distract from it.

Interview Perspectives

Theology teacher, T-Rod and head of the history department, Mr. Dragoni, both state that there must be regulations in place in the classroom.  Both of them state that technology and AI have an overall positive impact on learning, but need regulations in order for that positive influence to take place. When asked whether they would have no technology or unregulated technology in the classroom, Mr. Dragoni stated he would rather have none. T-Rod stated that AI and technology isn’t going anywhere, so we should embrace it rather than try to restrict it.

The Future of Education

As technologies such as virtual reality and generative AI mature, the teacher’s role is as important as ever. Technology is not a substitute for good education. It is a catalyst for unlocking potential, encouraging curiosity, and creating inclusive learning environments for all.
