Neon Nights at Moreau

Moreau’s annual Welcome Back Dance was glowtastic last Friday! With over 200 Mariners in attendance, the Glow in the Dark themed event was filled with high energy, hyped Mariners, good vibes, and was an overall exciting way to kick off the school year.
While most Mariners only go to enjoy the dance, our Senate Leaders are required to promote, set up, clean up, and ensure that everyone is having a good time. The memories made and great times had are truly because of our Senate’s hard work, so everyone should thank them dearly. In order to make an attempt at understanding what goes into this event, the Co-Presidents of Senate, Makena Harvey and Ivanka Menezes were asked what the hardest part of planning the event was.
Harvey responded, “I would say it’s doing the promo for MCTV, because a majority of planning the event is promo, but once we have all the deco and stuff, it’s pretty smooth sailing.”
Beyond promotion, the tight timeline creates another layer of stress for the Senate.
Menezes added, “I think it’s also really hard because we only have 2 weeks to plan it and it’s right at the beginning of the school year, so you have to get used to all your classes and it’s just a lot to do in such a short amount of time.”
Planning an entire school dance in two weeks is hard, but planning an entire fun school dance in two weeks is harder. So thank you, Senate Leaders, for planning this great dance! This is our Frosh’s first welcome back dance and our Seniors’ last, marking the beginning and end of the two classes’ journey of high school. As for the Frosh’s feelings and expectations for their first Welcome Back Dance, here’s what they had to say.
Ella Hambissa said, “My expectation is that we’re gonna glow like crazy.”
Benny Cardenas, said, “I just hope there’s like a lot of people, you know, and I meet new friends.”
By the end of the night, lots of Mariners were glowing, and many new friends were made; the dance was a success! Everyone seemed to be enjoying the music, dancing, and, of course, eating the snacks and candy. It was clear that everyone had a great time and enjoyed themselves. Junior Emiko Grippin was asked how she felt about this year’s Welcome Back Dance overall.
Grippin replied, “Okay, at first, low-key a little awkward, but I feel like people need to stop caring and just dance.”
Totally valid! It can be intimidating to start dancing when others aren’t, but at the end of the day, getting groovy is essential for unlimited fun. Overall, the Welcome Back Dance was a nice way to kick-start the school year and left a bright impression on how Mariners will be moving forward.
