Mariners Look to Bounce Back in 2026 Season
Last year, the Moreau Catholic Varsity Football team ended the season on a rough note. The Mariners ended the season with a record of 4-6; they missed out on their chances to make a playoff run. This year, though, fueled by a team of 10 captains, the Mariners are eager to erase the memory of last year’s 4-6 season. I’ve recently interviewed senior and team captain Tyler Ardales and got his take on how the season will go.
MC: How are you feeling going into your senior season?
TA: I’m feeling good. It sucks that this is my last season, but I think we have a good shot at going to the playoffs.
MC: What are the team’s biggest goals for this season?
TA: To play as a team, not be selfish on the field, and obviously get to the playoffs and win state again.
MC: What do you think makes the team better than we were last season?
TA: I think last year we didn’t play as a team; we weren’t working together, and we were just playing to look good individually.
MC: What are you hoping to accomplish this season?
TA: An individual goal is to do my best to not give up sacks and to clear a path for my RB in the run game
MC: Is there a specific game you’re looking forward to?
TA: I’m not looking forward to any specific game because there are a lot of teams we lost to last year that we need to get our get back at, not just one team.
A big part of preparing for a new season is making sure the team is connected on and off the field. In the next few questions, Tyler talks about the team’s chemistry during the offseason and how the players have come together. Team chemistry can make a difference during a long season, especially when the players have to rely on each other every game.
MC: How would you describe the team’s chemistry right now?
TA: I think we have good chemistry. We have all been putting in work together since February.
MC: What are some things that the team still needs to improve on?
TA: During practice we need to be more locked in and not be joking around all the time
MC: What’s the energy been like during practices leading up to this Friday night?
TA: The energy’s been high. We’ve put all this work in, like I said, since February, and we’re ready to finally play this game.

The Mariners will face tough competition this season, but with Tyler and the 9 other captains leading the way, the ingredients for another state championship are coming together.
