“The Last of Us Part 2,” the sequel to the first game, was made by Naughty Dog and released in 2020. The story takes place four years after the events of the first game, with the first half of the storyline being adapted into the second season of the HBO show.
At the beginning of the game, we get introduced to the character Abby, a WLF member. In the story, Abby kills Joel with a golf club because at the end of the first game, Joel unknowingly kills her dad to save Ellie from dying. Ellie, enraged by the murder of Joel, travels to Seattle, to hunt down and kill Abby.
The motives for what Abby did made a good start to the game. As you watch Abby kill Joel, it makes you resonate with Ellie’s sadness and anger; this is part of why I believe this game’s story is so excellent; but this also shows how anger can take over a person.
As the story progresses, we see Ellie search through Seattle for Abby, finding clues along the way of where she might be. But, as her search continues, her relationships with other characters, mostly Dina, start showing cracks.
The perspective then changes to Abby, and what she was up to over the previous three days in Seattle. As we play as Abby, we see the anguish she went through as she discovered her dad had been murdered. At the end of the story, Ellie decides to stop the cycle of violence and let Abby go.
I really enjoyed playing “The Last of Us Part 2,” and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a post-apocalyptic story or highly suspenseful games. There are many parts of the game that can be challenging like the Rat King boss fight. The game also requires loads of stealth throughout which does require lots of patience. Overall, I really love this game and the story of the “Last of Us” universe.
