The Blue Room, officially known as the Br. Gary Stone Academic Support Center, is a space at Moreau that is accessible to all students, yet most students only know it as a test taking or relaxing space. What many students don’t know is that the Blue Room is the center for the National Honor Society at Moreau.

Ever since every student at Moreau was added to a Canvas page called National Honor Society, there has been a lot of talk about what that actually is. Sure, NHS has been around for a while, but many students still don’t know what NHS at Moreau actually does. The truth is, we do quite a lot!

What is NHS?

NHS, or National Honor Society, is an association that acknowledges students for their scholarship, leadership, service, and character. The National Honor Society at Moreau Catholic High School is also a way for students to give back to their school community through peer tutoring. If students meet the criteria to apply and are accepted, they are officially an HNS member.

NHS @ Moreau

Because NHS is a national organization, the NHS chapter at MCHS is acknowledged as an official club, which means that the standards set by the national organization will be followed. At Moreau, the most significant thing about NHS is applying academic excellence through helping other students excel academically. This is done through peer tutoring, where club members mentor other students in different subjects.

2026-2027 Plans

This year, the National Honor Society at Moreau has expanded quite a bit. We now have an officer team–shout out to our co-presidents, Keerthana Sabhanayakam (’27) and Samantha Komrowski (‘27)–and our officers are establishing regular study groups on our most widely tutored or challenging subjects, such as Spanish or APUSH. We are also coming up with new activities and events for this school year, so stay tuned for more to come!

FAQ

For your convenience, I’ve put together some of the most frequently asked questions by students regarding NHS.

What is the Canvas page for?
The NHS Canvas page is for finding tutor contact information, joining a study group, learning more about NHS, or the tutor application.

When is tutoring available?
We offer both in-person and online tutoring depending on you and your tutor’s preferences and flexibility. Online sessions are up to you and your tutor’s discretion and schedules. In-person sessions the Blue Room is open during office hours unless otherwise specified, and after school until 5pm.

Can I do drop ins and/or request tutors?
Absolutely! Drop-ins are always welcome, and there are usually NHS tutors in the blue room that are free to tutor you. You can also request to be paired up with a specific tutor to have regular sessions with; this is something that is very common with the students here.

How do I join a study group?
Study group information is available on the Canvas page, or you could also talk to Ms. Amani or our officers for more information.
