Why YOU need to watch Sterling Point

Need a great show to binge? Tired of corny writing? Do you love unexpected plot twists? If so, I’ve got the show just for you: “Sterling Point”.

Amazon Prime’s new drama series “Sterling Point” is one of the greatest shows I’ve ever seen in my life. Set in New York and Sterling Point, Canada (totally fake location, by the way), a seventeen-year-old girl named Annie receives a strange letter from her recently deceased grandfather, alerting her of inheritance to an island. The show then takes place where she explores the island and discovers many untold truths about her family’s past.

 You’re probably wondering what makes this show so great, so I’m about to tell you straight up. This article is spoiler free, so feel free to watch after reading!

The Plot Thickens

If you consider the plot being each of the actors’ face-cards, I would 100% agree. All jokes aside, the actual plot of this show is impeccable. In order to be considered a great piece of  film, the plot and storyline have to captivate the audience. This show’s storyline contains many twists and turns that made my jaw drop. Coming from someone who foreshadows most film and television they watch, I can proudly say that Sterling Point passed the anticipation test. 

The director, Megan Park, beautifully blends multiple storylines within the show without making the audience confused about the events taking place. She also reflects real life situations; from sisterhood to love triangles, the plot and placement of this show could be described as “peak”.

Relatable Acting

Most shows I’ve seen within the past couple of years have had some crazy cringey acting. For example: “Ginny and Georgia”, “The Summer I Turned Pretty”, “Never Have I Ever”, I mean, the list goes on. In “Sterling Point” however, the acting feels genuine and realistic.

What makes the acting spectacular is that the actors deliver modern day slang in a natural way that makes the characters relatable instead of annoying. Even when moments are awkward, it’s not awkward in an “eww yuck” kind of way, it’s more of a “yikes I feel bad for you” way. I hate when actors exaggerate in their dialogue all of the time. In this show however, they never over do it when it comes to acting like a teenager. 

Also, every single actor can act in this show! It’s become too often where a nepo baby is cast and has terrible acting. Like, did their parents not teach them anything? Shout out to Keen Ruffalo, Mark Ruffalo’s son, for keeping the acting genes alive in this show. He plays Annie’s hilarious twin brother Connor.

Let’s be honest, we’ve all started a show just because someone caught the eye. My intentions for starting this show included scrolling upon a TikTok edit of one of the characters then immediately turning on my TV to Prime Video. Don’t judge me, just take a look for yourself. 

Beauty also includes the cinematography: so many beautiful cliffs, lakes, and other parts of nature are captured wonderfully. Watching this show has made me want to book a flight to Canada for my next vacation, badly. So if you love beautiful scenery in film, this show is definitely for you.
