Our first pick brings us to Haikyuu. Haikyuu is a Japanese sports anime about Shoyo Hinata, a determined high schooler who is aiming to become a top volleyball player despite his height.
At Karasuno High, he teams up with his rival, Tobio Kageyama, to restore their team’s former glory. Together, they transform the team into a united and powerful friend group.
For those looking for a thrilling sports anime or a team with amazing sportsmanship, look no further than Haikyuu.
Going in the opposite direction of Haikyuu brings us the tragic fantastical land of Re:ZERO. Re:ZERO is an Isekai genre anime, a genre where a person from the real world dies and gets transported to a fantasy world.
Re:ZERO in particular follows a completely normal high school dropout named Subaru Natsuki who gets transported to the land of Luguinca with the ability that whenever he dies, time rewinds him alone to a certain point before his death.
The plot shows Subaru’s usage of his power to face powerful foes and experience immense trauma countless times to save those around him.
This anime was recommended for having, “a unique premise; That’s why I like Re:ZERO,” says a Japanese student.
Our final anime was chosen by two of the interviewed students. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is an action packed anime following the vengeance of a boy named Tanjiro Kamado who had his family murdered and his sister turned into a demon.
The plot follows Tanjiro as he trains and gets stronger to wipe out all demons while also looking for a way to turn his sister back into a human.
Some fan favorite characters noted by Japanese students include Muichiro and Zenitsu.
Muichiro Tokito, in universe, is the mist hashira, a master of the mist style of sword fighting. He is known for his aloof air-head personality.
Zenitsu Agatsuma on the other hand is a lower ranking demon slayer who utilizes the thunder style of sword fighting. He is most known for his extreme cowardice and his ability to lock in an aura farm by fighting while being unconscious.
