Moreau’s Feminism Club is starting the year strong, with a mission to empower students and create a community where every voice can be heard. The club focuses on education and advocacy, all while keeping things fun and welcoming.
Avid member Stuti Pemmaraju states, “To me, feminism is about equality and opportunity for all women, regardless of race or class.” We believe that the heart of feminism lies in breaking down these barriers that separate us, in order to ensure that women of every background have the same chance to thrive.
That spirit is clear in the club’s upcoming events. Firstly, we have a booth at Open House on November 1, where families (and prospective members) can come and see what the club is all about. Then in February, we are hosting a celebration for National Women and Girls in Sports Day. March is packed too, with various Women’s History Month events (dates TBD), and the bustling Night Market on March 22. To wrap up the year, the club will also take part in Spring Welcome Night, hosting workshops in its engaging booth.
Aside from campus events, the Feminism Club is also turning its attention towards service. We are planning and brainstorming events such as creating care packages (similar to IFT day) for women in need, as well as volunteering at local shelters. In December, we will also hold our fourth annual shoe drive to benefit the Homeless Youth Alliance in San Francisco, who depend on Moreau’s awesome sneakers to keep unhoused teenagers’ feet dry all winter! These efforts truly bring our values into action, as members can directly connect with the wider community.
