Review: Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kasien is a dark fantasy anime/manga series, where negative emotions cause curses and cursed techniques. The only people that are able to fight against these curses are Jujutsu sorcerers who use cursed energy and powerful cursed techniques.

The story of JJK follows Yuji Itadori, who accidentally becomes connected to a curse named Sukuna after sollowing one of its fingers. After this, he joins a school for sorcerers where he learns to better control his cursed techique under Satoru Gojo.

Jujutsu Kaisen season 3’s first episode was released on January 8, 2026, including the intro song “Aizo,” by King Gnu. In total, there were 12 episodes that covered part of the Culling Games. 

JJK Season 3 follows after the events at Shibuya, where Satoru Gojo was sealed. The Culling Games were created to gather immense amounts of cursed energy, and merge humanity with Tengen. In the culling games there are 8 core original rules, with 4 additional rules being added.  

Rules.

1. Players must declare their participation and enter a colony within 19 days of awaking their cursed technique
2. Violation of the rules, including failure to join a colony, results in the elimination of the player’s cursed technique. 
3. Non-players who enter a colony become players upon entry. 
4. Players score points by killing others (sorcerers are worth 5, non-sorcerers 1)
5. Points are determined by the game master (Kenjaku)
6. Players can spend 100 points to negotiate a new rule with the game master. 
7. The game master must approve new rules unless they have a lasting negative effect on the game. 
8. If a player’s score remains the same for 19 days, their technique is removed. 

These are the base rules for the culling game, to help keep the games violent, to force players to participate, to prevent people to escape the games, and for Kenjaku to gather cursed energy. The main purpose of these games is to help evolve hummaity once enough cursed engergy is acumilated.

9. Players can spend 100 points to ask Kogane for information on other players, including their names, point totals, the number of rules they have added, and their current colony location. 
10. Players are allowed to transfer points to other players. 
11. Players can spend 100 points to allow a new player to enter the game as a substitute, effectively allowing an original player to exit. 
12. Allows for free passage across colony borders. 

The animation quality in Season 3 is very good, with great creative direction by Shota Goshozono. I really loved Jujutsu kaisen Season 3, with its great story telling and action. The Culling Games arc is by far my favorite arc. I do like the fast pacing of this season, but it does make some parts a little confusing.

My favorite part of Season 3 was Yuta Okkotsu’s end-of-season fight with Ryu and Takako, which made for an amazing ending. But, his final fight against Ryu, astonishing with great visuals and even the intro song playing while they fought, making the sense feel more intense and unforgettable. It perfectly captures the chaos and emotion of the sense, making it very exiting to watch.
