If you hang out in the festival area after school, you most likely have seen the boys’ basketball team training on the Al Vermeil Field or in the weight room.

Although basketball is a winter sport, the Mariners began preseason training much earlier to ensure a well-prepared and cohesive team. The athletes can be seen on the track completing sprint and endurance workouts, and in the weight room building strength. Before school, they put in the extra work in open gym morning workouts, which are open to all students.

These intense workouts demonstrate the team’s dedication and drive for success.

Led by head coach Frank Knight, the Moreau Catholic basketball program has built a strong reputation for excellence.

During the 2024–25 season, the varsity team went undefeated in league play with a 14–0 record and finished the season with a 26–6 overall record. This success is no coincidence—it’s part of a long-standing tradition of excellence within the Mariners’ basketball program. Moreau has won the Mission Valley Athletic League (MVAL) for nine of the past eleven years.

The current athletes continue to train with heart and determination to uphold that legacy of success.

You can watch the team play their first game of the season vs. Cardinal Newman High School on November 28th! Show your Mariner Pride by supporting the Moreau Catholic basketball program this upcoming season!
