THE SECRET LIFE OF STAFF
By Jesse Jimenez, Arts & Entertainment Editor, & Abigail Ramos-Flores, Staff Writer.

Faculty and staff are the backbone of schools. They put in countless hours of their full effort in order to educate students and make high school somewhat enjoyable, but many students only see their teachers in school or in the classroom. Yet, I’ve always wondered what their lives are like outside of school? What are their hobbies, how do they decompress after long days, and what are their interests? Well today, I’ve interviewed various teachers on what their lives look like outside of Moreau! Their lives consist of all different kinds of activities, from swimming and playing golf to cooking, spending time with family, etc.

Ms. Thomas: Outside of Moreau Catholic, I love hanging out with my friends, but I especially love going to estate sales, flea markets, and antique malls. If anybody knows me, you know that I’m a collector of Tchotchke’s and art and just anything that’s interesting or vintage. I’m also a lover of fashion, so at all of these things, I’m looking for good vintage, nice pieces for my collection.
I am also an art teacher, which means on the weekend I do make art. I’ve been working on a comic book series for years now, and I also will do paintings for my own stuff or shows that I’ve been asked to be a part of. And if you also know, you know I love horror films. So, if I’m taking time to relax and watch TV, it’s usually a horror movie or a scary show. Oh, and of course, I really love walking and jogging with my dog. Since she’s getting old now, she’s 14, so I have a baby carriage that we push around and do long walks while I listen to audiobooks.

Mr. Spinelli: I like to read a lot, I like to write. I love to go on hikes. I love to explore new restaurants in the city. I like to go to different neighborhoods in the city and just explore. Other than that, I like to grade a lot.

Mr. Aguilar: Okay so, I’m married, and my wife and I, we have two kids, they’re three and five years old. We do a lot of things together, but one of the things that we are really into is we go camping a lot, A LOT. And so we probably camp like once every month, maybe once every two months, but we camp pretty often. I also go off-roading when I go camping. As far as myself, I like going to 49ers games. I’m actually going to one this weekend. I also work on my truck a lot. I fix cars and modify them.

Coach Ben: It depends on what the day is. Right now, once school ends, I’ll go pick up my son from school. And if it’s during track season, I go to practice. If I go to practice, we usually go until about 5 to 5:30, and then I go to pick up my son. That’s usually pretty quick.

Ms. Greenbaum: I either go pick up my son from school or if Coach Ben has done it, then I go home to my boys. Usually when I get home, my boys are dying for a snack, so they eat and then we’ll play. We’ll either play inside or outside, since Coach Ben just built a slide in the backyard, so they like to run around and play outside.

Mr Gongwer: Well, I like to do something to unwind. Often that’s a session of yoga. Sometimes I’ll go swimming. Two to three times a week. Because I do swimming, I like to focus on my arms and shoulders a lot. I like to swim two or three times a week. There’s a club I swim with that swims in the San Francisco Bay. It’s called Odyssey Open Water Swimming. I do that on Sundays. And during the week, I’ll go to a place called Northeastern University. It used to be known as Mills College.

Mr Baptist: I do a variety of things after school. Like today, I’m gonna go help coach girls’ tennis. And then I belong to this golf club. We have a tournament for around 60 or 80 of us this weekend, and I got to go to the course and make sure the markings are correct. Then I’m gonna hit golf balls. The other thing I like doing is pickleball, since it’s on my way home from school.
